Running is not all fun and sunshine all the time, and any runner who tells you otherwise is lying to you. Are there plenty of times in my life when I can’t wait to lace up my shoes and get out the door? Sure. But, lately, that hasn’t been the case for me. It is a battle to run right now. Not because of injury. Not because of weather (although, that’ doesn’t help). Right now, it’s a struggle to lace up and get out the door. I have landed on hardcore “I don’t wanna!” And there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.
Normally, this isn’t that big a deal. All of us, as runners, hit that point where we’d rather do something else. But, given I have a 15K on February 9th and a 5K on February 16th, the timing of this running funk is less than ideal, to say the least. I’m not going to drop out of either race. But at this rather, neither of them are going to be pretty. And this isn’t to say that, because I’m avoiding running I’m avoiding all workouts all together: I’ve been doing a 30-day yoga challenge on YouTube (shout out to Yoga with Adriene), and I still get to the gym for strength training. I’ve also been breaking in a new bicycle when the weather cooperates. Rest assured I haven’t turned into a complete couch potato.
I just don’t feel like running, right now. It’ll pass, but it’s definitely not fun when “I don’t wanna” has two races on the calendar and slams up against “but you gotta.” So, yeah, this should be fun.
